Locality
Vítkov is an oblong hill on the right bank of Vltava River. It separates the quarters Karlín and Žižkov. On July14, 1420 one of the most important Hussite battles happened here. You can also admire National Liberation Monument and Army Museum Žižkov located on the hillside of Vítkov on U Památníku street.
Under Vítkov Hill you can see three interesting tunnel constructions:
- Tunnel for pedestrians connecting Žižkov and Karlín, steep tunnel in north-south direction
- Railway tunnel connecting Praha-Libeň railway station or Praha-Vysočany with the Main Railway Station in Prague, east-west direction
- Newly constructed double tunnel from the Main Railway Station in Prague to Libeň (reconstruction of a rail junction in Prague)
On Vítkov Hill stands the biggest bronze equestrian statue in the world - Jan Žižka holding a mace. There's a beautiful view of Prague from the statue.
